Oxford is an historical city made up of elegant architecture, scholarly buzz, winding rivers and age-old treasures. It’s seemingly secret alleyways, streets and arcades are home to some unexpected and fascinating finds. The Ashmolean is England’s first university museum and always worth a visit (free entry).
Walk into Oxford from Parklands (or take the bus) and just over the Thames is Christ Church College, the Cathedral and Christ Church Meadows, a pasture between the Cherwell and Thames rivers.
You can explore the area by punt, available to hire from The Cherwell Boathouse, just around the corner from Parklands. Alternatively, at the lower end of High Street you will find Magdalen Bridge Boathouse, which hires punts, rowing boats and pedalos.
